AMD appears to be readying a new surprise addition to its RDNA 4 lineup. According to recent rumors, the company is working on a card called the Radeon RX 9050 – a direct competitor to NVIDIA’s anticipated RTX 5050, with some genuinely interesting specs under the hood.
RX 9050: More cores than the RX 9060?
The most eyebrow-raising detail here is that the RX 9050, despite sitting lower in the product stack, reportedly packs more cores than the RX 9060. That’s an unusual move – and it strongly suggests AMD is deliberately engineering a more competitive budget offering, rather than simply binning down an existing chip.
According to VideoCardz, the card is based on the Navi 44 chip and is expected to ship with the following specifications:

What is AMD going for?
The RX 9050’s configuration points to a deliberate strategy: AMD wants a sharper weapon against the RTX 5050, rather than repurposing the standard RX 9060 – which is currently aimed primarily at the OEM market, not retail shelves.
Some early claims suggest the RX 9060 could outperform the RTX 5050 by around 20%, but those figures are preliminary and shouldn’t be treated as definitive. As always, independent benchmarks will be the real test.
